People chase cheese down hillOur Student Inclusion Officer, Carly, grew up in a city called Gloucester, which proudly hosts a yearly cheeserolling competition. During this fun and friendly event we’ll be watching a 30-minute Netflix documentary all about cheeserolling, featuring some brave cheese chasers! We’ll also take a look at lots of other strange British traditions, some of which even UK students may not have heard of.

Afterwards we will be holding a Q and A, where you can ask questions about the more surprising events you might come across here in the UK.

There will be free tea and cake, and all University of Bristol students (home and international) are welcome.

In this Black Men Women Talk (BMWT) session, we’ll explore our cultural identity over a FREE ‘stand up’ supper kindly provided by Rice & Things. We’ll lead the discussion around race and mental health, exploring themes related to racial trauma and isolation while sharing our coping strategies.

Navigating University as an East Asian Student

Please note that Alternative Asians was initiated to support East Asian students, but all Asian students are welcome to attend.

Studying at Bristol as an East Asian student can be an exciting, but challenging time: you get to experience new cultures, but face cultural differences; you learn to be independent, but battle loneliness.

In this session, run by Student Inclusion, you’ll discuss the trials and tribulations of adjusting to another culture, and learn how to navigate potential racism and Xenophobia in a foreign country. Come along to the first Alternative Asian session of the year, and find out how you can not only survive – but thrive at Bristol!

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year in Islam. Could you fast for a day?

To better understand fellow students and staff who are fasting, why not try fasting for a day yourself? All attendees who have fasted or plan to fast will be eligible for a £15 Just Eat voucher!* The event organisers will tell you how to claim on the day.
