Social and Welcome Winter events

This winter we have plenty of events to keep you occupied and provide you with a break from your studies. Whether you have already arrived in Bristol, or are planning to arrive in the next few weeks, we have plenty of fun and relaxing virtual events to help you familiarise yourself with the city and campus.

Games Café
1 pm to 2:30 pm
Monday 11, 18 and 25 January 

The Global Lounge is launching its new Games Café – a virtual event where you can play a multitude of games whilst meeting other students!

If you just want to wind-down, why not take a moment to join a two-player game of hangman, advanced noughts and crosses or chess? We also have group jigsaws for those puzzle-lovers out there. Or, maybe you feel like doing something a bit more active? Let our student ambassadors guide you through group games of charades, Pictionary and pub quizzes. Please click below to join these events:

Speedfriending
1 pm to 2 pm
Wednesday 13, 20 and 27 January 

Join in with this fun and interactive session to meet new people and make friends – fast! This is a great opportunity to make friends from around the world and you don’t even need to leave your room to do it! You’ll be put into groups and have the chance to chat for 15 minutes before everyone swaps over and changes groups. There will be three rounds in total, so plenty of opportunity to make new connections with fellow students.

18 to 22 January (Monday to Friday)

Hear students share their personal experiences of living and studying in Bristol! You’ll have the chance to ask current students anything you like about their time at university. Gain useful tips on how to make the most of what Bristol has to offer, as well as advice on how to prepare for your studies. Don’t miss the chance to discover fun ways of making friends and picking up new skills outside of your university timetable!

Living in the UK – Thursday 21 January
Learn about academic culture in the UK and find out how to navigate your way through some stereotypes about UK life. Our student ambassadors give tips on how to immerse yourself in a new culture.

Travel in Bristol and beyond – Friday 22 January
Find out how to move around Bristol hassle-free as we help you make sense of public transport in the city and beyond. We share some popular travel destinations and how to travel cheaply and efficiently!

Virtual Bristol city tour – 12, 19 and 26 January
Bristol is a vibrant city with many distinct areas. The Global Lounge and student ambassadors give a virtual tour of the different neighbourhoods of Bristol. Get a good understanding of the layout of the city and start planning your adventures!

Virtual campus tour – 15, 22 and 29 January
The Global Lounge and International Office Student Ambassadors virtually ‘walk’ you through campus. Students share their top tips on the best study spots or where to eat and relax.

Intercultural Mingle

Thursday 14, 21, 28 January and 4 February 

The University of Bristol Multifaith Chaplaincy is a friendly and safe space on campus where you can escape the busyness of University life. This term they bring you a series of interactive socials, enabling you to make friends and learn more about one another’s cultures in a fun and informal environment. This event has a global focus, encouraging intercultural exchange in an inclusive setting.
