Welcome to our summer programme of cultural events and activities! Although the academic year finishes in June, there will still be lots of fun things happening over the summer months for you to get involved in. Whether you’re a home or international student, postgraduate or pre-sessional; these events are for everyone to enjoy! Click on the event categories below to find out more about all of the exciting things we have planned, both in Bristol and further afield.
Please be aware that some of the activities listed will have limited places – so make sure to book your spot so you don’t miss out. All Bristol-based events are free, but you will need to purchase tickets for day trips out of town. We look forward to seeing you at one of our events soon!

Speedfriending
It’s fast, it’s furious, it’s fun; it’s speedfriending! If you’re looking to make new friends at the University – look no further! Speedfriending offers you the chance to meet other current and prospective students, from all over the world, in a relaxed and friendly setting. Many of our previous attendees have found friends through this activity, going on to meet up with other students in person. If you’re on the shyer side – don’t worry – this is a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment, so why not give it a go?

City tours
Join our friendly guide Luke for a free walking tour around the wonderful city of Bristol, the cultural hub of the South West. You’ll get to see some of the city’s most iconic buildings, explore Bristol’s unique neighbourhoods and discover some the endless cafes, bakeries and shops the city is renowned for. Whether you choose to tour the beautiful and bustling Clifton Village, or take in some famous street art in the city centre, Luke will make sure you get to see many of the hidden gems the city has to offer.

Picnic in the park
There is nothing better during the summer than relaxing in one Bristol’s beautiful parks with a traditional English picnic. If you’d like to chat to other students while enjoying the sunshine and tucking into some delicious British picnic food, why not come and join us? This is a great chance to make new friends, while spending time in the great outdoors. We’ll also have some summer games available for you to show off your competitive streak.

Day trips (ÂŁ)
Come on a day trip with the Global Lounge and explore some of the beautiful historical sites near Bristol. As you will discover, there is a lot to see! You can uncover the story of Stonehenge, a prehistoric monument built around 3000BC, visit one of the world’s most famous universities in Oxford or immerse yourself in the elegant architecture of Bath. There will also be plenty of opportunity to chat with fellow students, and to stop for a traditional English cup of tea.

Taste of Britain
Feeling hungry? Here at the Global Lounge we have designed an event to literally give you a ‘taste of Britain’. Find out about the huge variety of delicious British cuisine and interesting cultural traditions you might come across here in the UK. Learn about the British obsession with queuing and who is next in line for the British throne, all while tucking into a tasty selection of different British meals. By the end of this event, you’ll feel like a local!

Treasure hunt
If you want to explore the exciting city of Bristol, why not join a team of fellow students on a treasure hunt, custom-designed just for you? Discover what Whiteladies Road or Clifton Village have to offer and make new friends, all while enjoying this fun and interactive activity. You’ll receive instructions a day or two before the treasure hunt on how to download an app, which will guide you through the map of treasures. There are also some fantastic prizes to be won!

Movies @ the Lounge
Why not have a break from studying and join us for a relaxing movie screening at the Global Lounge? We will be watching Eddie the Eagle, an inspirational true story about a British ski jumper whose determination enabled him to achieve his dream of competing at the Olympics. It is uplifting, funny and heart-warming, all at the same time. Our discussion time will provide a great opportunity to practice your English skills. Oh… and there will be free popcorn too!
