Language Café Taster Session
Monday 19 September at 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Get an idea of how the Language Café runs at this taster session, and see if you’d like to return to our weekly sessions as a volunteer or casual learner!
What happens at the taster session?
This taster session will kickstart at 2 pm, offering you a flavour of our weekly Language Café! As you come in, simply choose one of many wonderful language tables. Feel free to introduce yourself to others and get chatting. If you’re not very experienced in your chosen language, you’re welcome to revert back to English.
Not only is this friendly taster session a chance to meet other language enthusiasts and practise your own skills, you can also help yourself to free hot drinks and snacks throughout the Café!
If you like this event, check our event programme and come back to our future sessions as a learner or volunteer!
When & Where?
Monday 19 September, 2pm—3:30pm.
The first taster session will be held in the Anson Rooms (in the Richmond Building, 105 Queens Rd, Bristol BS8 1LN).
From 5 October, our weekly Café will take place in the Global Lounge (1st floor of Senate House).
Can I apply to volunteer before the taster session?
You can apply to become a Language Café volunteer either before or after the taster session. You can learn more about volunteering here.
What is the Language Café?
The Language Café is an informal language practising event where you can casually converse with fluent speakers of 20+ languages. The Café is a great place to meet other people, learn something new, and share from your own experience! It runs every Wednesday in term-time in the Global Lounge (1st Floor, Senate House, BS8 1TH). We welcome all students and staff to come to to enjoy free refreshments and friendly discussions at the:
- 2PM English-only Language Café (for those just wanting to practice English), and/or the
- 5PM Language Café (which offers a variety of languages, including English)
Our success story
Since its launch in November 2019, Language Café has been a success story with a few hundred language learners, 150+ volunteers and 20+ languages.
Following the popularity of English conversation groups at last year’s Café and the ensuing success of the English Café trial, the English-only Café has been reinstated for this academic year!
