The theme of this event is identity, and the vision behind the showcase is to instill confidence in the African and Caribbean people of Bristol about their origin, and to remind ourselves of what is beautiful about where we come from.

What does Afrocentrik mean?

It is derived from the word Afrocentric which can be defined as the regard of black culture as preeminent and prestigious. This showcase walks hand in hand with African, Caribbean and Diaspora culture as they are different – like brother and sister – but part of the same as family. We do not stifle any culture or constrict them to any one name, instead, we magnify their uniqueness and embrace the resemblances.

Who am I?

Ijeoma Egbarin – President of A.C.S

“As an African and/or Caribbean individual in the UK, it is easy to subject ourselves to the classification of minority. In reality we are much more than that. We are cultured, we are black, we are distinguished from the crowd in every possible way like gems among the sand. We are exceptional, extraordinary and yes, exotic. We must all be on a fast moving journey to answering the question “Who am I?” with every ounce of detail we can, and with every sense of pride – for we are not but one thing.”
